Seahawks Add Gallery, Byrum. Lose Mare, Herring, Stokely
The Seahawks have agreed to terms with former Oakland guard Robert Gallery. Seattle had been mentioned as a natural destination for Gallery after former Raiders head coach Tom Cable accepted the role of Offensive Line Coach/Assistant Head Coach with the team.
The addition of Gallery gives Seattle a much needed veteran presence along the front line where he presumably joins left tackle Russell Okung, center Max Unger, and rookies John Moffitt (RG) and James Carpenter (RT).
Gallery was the second overall pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 2004 draft. He was taken as a tackle but struggled to settle into the position before eventually being moved to left guard in 2007, where he excelled under coach Cable.
Seattle also announced the signing of Auburn rookie kicker Wes Byrum. This announcement came on the heels of the news that Olindo Mare signed a multi-year deal with Carolina.
The Seahawks also lost free agent linebacker Will Herring. He is headed to New Orleans to join the Saints. The 3rd round selection of K.J. Wright proves to be a good one here.
Brandon Stokely is also on his way out, as he has decided to re-join Mike Shanahan in Washington.
A lot has happened in two days. Lots more to go, I’m sure.
