Defensive Players Who Could Pique Seattle’s Interest on Day 3
A handful of defensive players at need positions for Seattle, who could be intriguing on day 3…
DT
Lawrence Guy – Arizona State – 6’5, 300lbs - A lot of athleticism and upside to work with, but has relied solely on it rather than on technique. Could be a developmental project as a 3-tech with good size/quickness combo. Coming out a year early against advise of many.
Martin Parker – Richmond – 6’2, 300lbs - High effort guy with explosive first step and punch off the line. Dominated at lower levels as a 3-technique, but quickness and upper body strength should transition well to NFL. An All-American in 2010 at Richmond. Could be a real steal in mid-late rounds.
DE
Greg Romeus – Pittsburgh – 6’5, 268lbs – Prototypical end with ideal height, arm length and chiseled frame. Athletic enough to drop back into coverage. When active with his hands, can bull-rush, spin and disengage to close on QB. Solid natural quickness. An underachiever who doesn’t show a relentless motor, sometimes taking plays off. Injuries marred senior season. Talent of a first-rounder.
Ugo Chinasa – Oklahoma State – 6’5, 256lbs – Has all the tools and physical structure to be a dominant pass-rusher at the next level, but an inconsistent motor forces a drop to mid-late rounds. Good speed, upper body strength, active hands and long arms. Lean and quick. Could play 3-4 rush ‘backer or weakside rush end in 4-3 on passing downs. Needs to up his effort, but could be tough to pass on in late 5th, early 6th.
CB
Jalil Brown - Colorado - 6’0, 202lbs - Unpolished in his technique but all the ability to be an NFL starter. Thick CB with good size and awareness to break up passes.
Curtis Marsh – Utah State – 6’0, 194lbs - Gifted athlete who is a converted running back. Jams well at the line and can make plays on the ball. Considered a project by scouts as he is still pretty unrefined as a corner, but has the makeup.
