‘Hawks Confirm Hiring of Carl Smith as QB Coach…and Other News..
The Seahawks, today, announced the hiring of Carl Smith for the position of QB coach.
John Boyle of the Everett Herald writes that the hiring was confirmed by a team spokesman Thursday night.
Smith has served under Pete Carroll before, both in New England during Carroll’s stint as head coach there from ’97-’99, as well as at USC in ’04 and part of ’09.
Smith replaces Jedd Fisch, who left recently to become the Offensive Coordinator at the University of Miami.
The move has been anticipated for some time. Danny O’Neil picked up on it back in January.
A few other pieces of news from earlier in the week…
The Seahawks re-signed former Huskies, Isaiah Stanback (WR) and Roy Lewis (CB). Lewis is the bigger keep here, after a decent year as a nickel corner and another strong Special Teams showing. Stanback was placed on IR in camp after suffering a torn Achilles tendon.
Art Valero, who took over as Offensive Line Coach after the departure of Alex Gibbs prior to last season, has left the Seahawks for the Tennessee Titans where he is presumed to be the Assistant Offensive Line Coach under new Head Coach, Mike Munchak.
Seahawks’ GM John Schneider answered a few questions this morning at the NFL Scouting Combine, and Danny O’Neil has posted a portion of the transcript over at his Seattle Times Seahawks Blog.
