Seahawks to Sign Brandon Jones

Since this site isn’t really intended to be a facilitator of breaking news, I’ll go ahead and post a link to the Greg Johns article announcing the Seahawks’ signing of wide receiver Brandon Jones, who was released last week by San Francisco.

As for analysis on Jones, he’s comparable to a guy like Ben Obomanu in that he’s not a blazer, but has shown decent hands and solid route-running since coming out of Oklahoma as a 3rd-round pick of the Titans in ’05. He had a decent ’08 season with Tennessee when he hauled in 41 catches for 449 yards, but disappointed in San Francisco last year with just 1 catch for 8 yards.

He’ll compete with Ben Obomanu and Ruvell Martin for the No. 5/6 receiver spot(s). As Johns mentions in his article, Kole Heckendorf could also factor into the competition.

This is really a depth move….doesn’t get me too excited.
