Seahawks Sign Adrian Peterson….No, Not That One…
The Seahawks announced today, the signing of former Chicago Bears backup running back, Adrian Peterson. Peterson was a sixth-round draft pick of the Bears back in 2002, out of Georgia Southern, where he set the Division I record for career rushing yards (6,559).
Flash forward nine NFL seasons, and you’ve got a 31-year old veteran with a total of 1,260 rushing yards (4.1 ypc avg.) to go with 8 TD’s over that time frame. Sweet.
The Seahawks cut recently acquired undrafted free agent rookie wide receiver Matt Simon, to make room for Peterson.
All this really means is that the Seahawks want to ensure that nobody gets too comfortable thinking that they’re a lock to make the team in the backfield. Peterson was an adequate backup and change-of-pace runner in Chicago who made some plays in the passing game.
He’ll be sportin’ #42 this weekend, and should see some time in the 3rd and 4th quarters if he’s active for the game.
More competition never hurts. Unless, of course, you’re Julius Jones.
